I don’t know where I’m supposed to leave my comment about my favorite Christmas tree, so I’m leaving it here since there were no comment area on Cynthia Ruchti’s site. My favorite Christmas tree wasn’t for my home, but my 2 room school in Oklahoma. My mom and my aunt decided that this year they would get the tree for the school and our Christmas program. So they set out in my aunt’s pickup with an ax and headed out into the field across the road from the school. They found this really rotund tree that was bigger around than it was tall, they managed to cut it down and somehow drag it onto the bed of the truck but had no way to tie it down. They got it to school and had to drag it from the truck to the school, our teacher Mr. Stout was watching from the door and started laughing, not a quiet laugh a big belly laugh, and he laughed until he cried. We couldn’t figure out what he was laughing until we saw my mom and aunt at the door trying to get this tree in the door that wasn’t wide enough they tugged and pulled and tugged some more and finally worked it through the door but couldn’t get it the stage because of out desks, so Mr. Stout after calming himself down told my mom and aunt to leave the tree where it was until he could get a container for the tree. It took Mr. Stout , my dad and my uncle 2 hours to wrangle that tree and set it up, and it took up half the stage. We couldn’t get very many ornaments on it because it was so fat. So we put what we could on it and squeezed around it to do our program with that fat tree. My dad asked my mom what she was thinking when they got that tree, and my mom said it didn’t look that big out in the field.

So my favorite christmas tree memory is not a typical one. When I was younger say about 5 and my brother was 2, he was obsessed with the tree and ornaments! so my parents put stuff around the tree so he couldn’t climb up on it and pull the ornaments off. well what they forgot was that the desk was close to the tree! I was sitting on our couch and heard him climbing up on a chair to get on the desk, then he proceeded to literally jump over on our tree and the whole thing came crashing down! the bad part about the story is when he was climbing on the chair I was yelling for my mom he is gonna pull down the tree! well just as she cane around the corner is when he jumped for it! so the chair also had to be removed! he was alright and so was everything else, but that memory had always stuck with me and he has never been able to not hear this story! Merry Christmas everyone!

My favorite Christmas tree is the one when my kids were old enough to be “amazed” and excited by the lights and the ornaments on the tree (and by all the gifts under the tree).
